Rocky and Bullwinkle Rocky and Bullwinkle is a 50’s Children’s TV cartoon. Jay Ward and Bill Scott worked on an animated show called 'Crusader Rabbit'. When they tried to obtain the right to the series, they found that this path was fraught with difficulties. So they decided to make a new series based on one of their shorts - 'The Frostbite Falls Review', which starred a number of animals that were trying to make a TV show.   The only 2 characters that were brought across to the new show was Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle Moose (who was known as Canadian Moose). The show was called 'Rocky and his Friends'. What was unique at the time was the show was split into sections and there were cartoons within a cartoon. Later on, the show was repackaged a number of times as 'The Bullwinkle Show' and 'The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends', which were shown throughout the world.   The shows were split into a number of segments. The main story (which always had 2 titles), was also split into a number of sections, with most of them ending on a cliffhanger, where one of the duo was in trouble. Dotted throughout the show were other cartoons, such as:    - A 'Fractured Fairy Tale', which had a more comical slant on a classic fairy tales. - 'Bullwinkle's Corner', where Bullwinkle read out a classic poem, whilst acting it out. - Dudley Do-Right - Aesop's Son - 'Peabody's Improbable History'. Where Peabody the dog (who is a genius) decides that there is something missing in his life - a boy. So he looked for one he could look after and found one called Sherman, who was living in an orphanage. But he had to prove to a court that a dog could adopt a boy (which is unusual, as it is normally the other way around). Mr Peabody even built a time machine for him, but adjusted it to be a 'Should have Been machine' (or 'Way Back machine'). So each week they would travel back in time visiting historical figures like Napoleon, who's trouser braces had been stolen!.   Story  Rocky and Bullwinkle are two friends that come from Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, USA. Their adventures began when Bullwinkle was trying to bake a quick rising cake from his grandma's recipe, but the first layer rose quicker than expected, and the cake mixture blew up and blew the cooker to the moon. They then used the next two sections of the cake to go to the moon to get the cooker back.   But they were spotted by the US Government and they hired them to make rocket fuel from cakes. But Grandma's recipe noted had been blown apart into two sections and Bullwinkle only had one half. So they started work on trying to recreate the recipe from memory (with various degrees of success). But Boris Badinov and Natasha Fatale, two notorious spies, were after the cake formula and would stop at nothing to get it. They weren't the only people after them, the Moon men were too (to stop tourists going to the moon).   Rocky and Bullwinkle had a number of run ins with the Moon Men, until they persuaded them to give them the formula and they then discovered that they were missing one ingredient, Mooseberrys, which was found in only one place - Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, their home town. But when they get there, Boris and Natasha stepped in and toke the Mooseberry Bush (even though Rocky and Bullwinkle thought they have lost it in the river). So Rocky and Bullwinkle headed back to New York and coincidentally so did Boris and Natasha.   Rocky and Bullwinkle decided to get in touch with the Moon Men and ask if there was anywhere else on Earth they can get Mooseberrys. Luckily for them, Gidney and Cloyd knew one other place, Pottsylvania, the same place Boris and Natasha are going with the Mooseberry Bush (and where their Fearless Leader is based). At Pottslvania children are taught their ABC's - Assassination, Bomb Throwing and Conspiracy, also everyone is a Spy and everything's a secret.    Would you believe it, they all end up on the same ship to Pottsylvania! But the Mooseberry Bush didn't like being on the ship and it keeled over. So the Fearless Leader told Boris and Natasha to help Rocky and Bullwinkle find the Mooseberry bush in Pottsylvania. But as usual, it wasn't that easy and it was growing high up on the Grimalayan Mountains. With a bit of luck they found it, but they didn't count on the Abominable Snowman turning up. The Spies fled and Rocky and Buillwinkle had to face this monster alone. Luckily for them, they found out it was Gidney and Cloyd in disguise.   So the four of them made their way back to the USA, with a plan to make the Moon Men American citizens, so that they could go to the moon in the name of the USA (keeping their Government happy and getting the Moon Men home). One thing they didn't count on was congress making it harder to become a citizen and so the Moon men failed in their application. But they were over to moon when they found out that they were being deported back to where they came from, the Moon. So the Moon men went home and Rocky and Bullwinkle continued on more exciting adventures. Rocky and Bullwinkle Characters    Rocket J. Squirrel Rocket (or Rocky as he is known to most people) is a flying squirrel and is the best friend of Bullwinkle the Moose. The two of them are inseparable and Rocky will always flying to the aid of his friend. Rocky is a bit gullible and will believe anything you tell him (which is lucky for Boris and Natasha).     Bullwinkle the Moose He graduated at MID (Moose Institute of Pole Dancing) and was the Director of the 'Department of Guided Moosiles'. In his early days, in the Minnosota woods, he went to the Philpot's School for exceptional children. He was also in the army, and he served 3 years, as a hat rack in the officers club.     Boris Badenov He is a notorious Russian spy from Pottsylvania. He is constantly trying to steal secrets and he spends all his time trying to steal Bullwinkle's Rocket Fuel Formula. He keeps in touch with his masters via radio or telex (their Fearless Leader at Central Control), and most of the time it says 'keel moose', which Badenov tries to do, but never succeeds (I wonder why he isn't interested in killing Rocky?). Boris is also a master of disguise. Well, to Rocky and Bullwinkle he is, because for some reason I can spot it's him each time (I wonder if I'm gifted?).     Natasha Fatale She is a notorious spy and works with Boris. She thinks that Boris is a dirty double crossing skunk (and he took that as a compliment). I don't have much else to tell you about her, apart from she's tall and has a deep husky voice.     Moon Men Gidney and Cloyd were two Moon Men that had been sent to Earth to stop Rocky and Bulwinkle rediscovering their rocket fuel formula. But why didn't they want them to do this? Its quite simple really, they didn't want tourists on their moon, and they liked it just the way it was. They can be quite difficult to find, as they have the ability to become invisible, but they became visible to scrooch Rocky and Bullwinkle (which is freeze them with their ray gun) and take them back to the Moon.   The trouble was they couldn't get back to the moon, as they had problems with their flying saucer. Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale had stolen the fuel tank, to stop them taking off and the spaceship crashed. So in the meantime, they became minor celebrities on Earth, but this wasn't doing them any good (they even had a show in Las Vegas). So with the help of Rocky and Bullwinkle, they applied for citizenship and failed the test and got deported back to the Moon. I bet they were happy.
